Many people choose tattoos based on a topic with which they identify or for which they have passion. A common example is one's nationality -- two very common nationality-based tattoos are Irish tattoos and Italian tattoos. Irish tattoos (or Celtic-inspired themes) are a bit more versatile as they can also be considered a style of tattoo, rather than just a nationality.

I have a Native American tattoo on my arm (got it about 15 years ago), and it was inspired by Kiedis's.
